Gemotions

Sarah traced the cursive script on the invitation, her pulse beginning to quicken. The glossy paper seemed to burn in her grasp. It had been years since she'd allowed herself to think about that part of her life. Now, it was all rushing back. The dances, the gossip, the crushing weight of unrequited affection.

A nervous energy coursed through her. She felt like she could run a marathon. Her fingers danced across the keyboard, she started compulsively cleaning and rearranging the living room furniture, as if trying to erase the ghost of her teenage self. She suddenly needed to purge all the excess from her life. She started planning, a frenzied flurry of lists and schedules.

“Well,” she muttered to herself, a determined gleam in her eyes. “I'll show them all.”

She dug through her closet, pulling out dresses, trying them on, discarding them, and then re-evaluating. Time to be the person she always wanted to be.
