The afternoon sun blazed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. The anticipation of the day was now making him feel sick. This was the moment of decision. To choose between Hannah’s elegant garden party, or David’s raucous beer pong tournament.

He paced the length of his apartment, running his hands through his hair. His heart hammered in his chest. His breath came in shallow, rapid pants.

He opened the fridge, then slammed it shut again. He grabbed his keys, then tossed them back onto the counter. He had to be quick.
