Gemotions

The words on the screen blurred, the rejection letter an amorphous blob of disappointment. He slammed the laptop shut, the click a sharp punctuation mark to his shattered dreams. A current ran through him, a mixture of anger and something else, something electrifying.

He surged to his feet, unable to stay still. His apartment, once a sanctuary, now felt like a cage. He grabbed his keys, yanking open the door. The familiar scent of the outside world, the distant rumble of traffic, the slight breeze – everything was amplified, intensified.

He walked quickly, his boots pounding against the pavement. He didn’t know where he was going, only that he needed to move, to expend the excess energy coursing through him. He found himself running, his breath coming in ragged gasps, his vision narrowing.
