The phone vibrated on the table, a frantic buzz against the quiet afternoon. It was a picture message from Sarah: her smiling face in front of a moving truck. The words, "See you soon, Colorado!" flashed across the screen. A tremor ran through Michael, making him jump. He stood up abruptly, pacing the small apartment.

He had to do something. Anything. He picked up a pen and started scribbling furiously on a notepad, filling the page with random doodles and crossed-out words. His leg bounced. He knew he should call her, congratulate her, but the words wouldn't come. His mouth felt dry.
