Gemotions

The crispness of the parchment, the unfamiliar handwriting, it all felt so foreign. Maria stared at the letter, her pulse quickening. She sat down, suddenly needing the support of a chair, but she couldn't bring herself to actually sit. The memories, once buried beneath the weight of time, surged back with a force she hadn't anticipated.

Her hands shook as she picked up the letter again, slowly unfolding it. The words, so carefully chosen, cut through the years. The air in the room seemed to crackle with an invisible energy. She felt suddenly, acutely aware of every inch of her skin, every breath she took.

She rose, and walked towards the window. The world outside seemed to vibrate, as if anticipating something.
