The email notification made Evelyn jump. Her childhood house. For sale. A wave of goosebumps erupted on her arms. Her fingers, usually clumsy, moved with lightning speed as she clicked the link.

The photographs blurred past. Each room, a portal to a forgotten past. She felt a lightness, an exhilaration that was almost dizzying. Her breath quickened. The memories were sharp, the smells, the sounds, all flooding back.

She had to get out of her office. Now. Excuses danced on her tongue, ready to be deployed to justify her abrupt departure. She gathered her things with frantic speed, her mind already racing toward the property. She had to see it. She had to be there.
