The framed photograph on the desk. His family, smiling, posed. She found herself fixating on it, analyzing every detail, every facial expression. She was trying to avoid looking at him, the source of her current unrest.

She’d never expected to see him again, much less to be sitting in his office, confessing her innermost fears. The thought was both humiliating and… intriguing. Her pulse quickened. She felt a strange lightness in her limbs, a tingling sensation that ran through her veins.
