The list was stained with coffee and tears. “Visit Japan.” “Write a song.” “Dance in the rain.” Amelia’s mother, the woman who had always seemed so…contained, had held so much inside. A feeling that could be described as an inner vibrancy exploded in Amelia's chest.

Her fingers felt restless, tracing the words. She needed to feel the rhythm, to move, to express. She found herself instinctively switching on her music and turning up the volume. The heavy curtains of her living room felt stifling.

She started to pace, her body humming with a new energy. She would embrace her mother's desires, to feel alive, in her own body.
