Mr. Davies, the sternest teacher in the school, was stunned. He found the package outside his door, unwrapped, showing its contents: a custom-made pen set. "For Mr. Davies, whose words shaped my world," the accompanying card read. From Liam, the troublemaker from his English class. A knot of something untangled in his chest.

He stared at the pen set, the gleaming metal catching the light. He felt an unusual energy coursing through him. He sat down and, for the first time in years, he felt a renewed interest in writing.

He pulled out a blank sheet of paper and began to write, his pen flowing across the page. The words poured out of him with surprising ease, a story he’d had tucked away for years.
