The president’s voice, monotone and somber, washed over Marcus. He felt a sensation in his chest, a tight, buzzing feeling. It was an odd mix of dread and…something else. His hands wouldn’t stop fidgeting. He clenched them, then let them unclench. He bounced his leg, then stopped himself. He wanted to leap from his chair, to scream at the top of his lungs, to tear down the banners hanging from the auditorium ceiling. The news was bad, undeniably bad, but somehow, some part of him was…exhilarated. The world, previously dull and predictable, now seemed full of possibilities, chaotic and untamed.
