The constant drone of the printing press grated on Kai's nerves. The book launch was in two weeks, and the layout was still not finalized. He was perpetually exhausted, running on caffeine and fumes. The weight of his responsibilities felt enormous.

A friend called, his voice laced with confusion. He’d seen something online, something Kai needed to see. Reluctantly, Kai clicked the link.

It was a tattoo convention. A large display of tattoos. And there it was, his entire cover design for the book, permanently etched on someone's torso. His blood ran cold. He felt a dizzying emptiness, a sense of being robbed of something precious.
