The doctor’s waiting room felt like a suffocating cocoon. Sarah tapped her foot incessantly, the rhythmic sound echoing in the sterile silence. Her breath came in shallow, rapid pants. Her fingers played a nervous game with the hem of her cardigan, pulling and twisting it.

She’d almost thrown up when she saw the cover. Her life, laid bare. It had been like a punch to the gut. She found herself scanning every face, convinced that everyone knew, everyone was whispering. The interior of the waiting room closed in on her, and she felt like she couldn't breath.
