“Can you believe it?” Mark asked, voice strained. “He’s actually going to do it.” He gestured wildly at the blueprints spread across the kitchen table. The impending fence was an abomination.

He ran a hand through his hair, leaving it a mess. The HOA meeting was tonight. He knew what would happen. Bickering. Pointing fingers. It was exhausting just thinking about it.

“We need to be prepared,” he said, his voice dropping to a near whisper. He grabbed a pen and began to furiously circle sections of the document. He could feel a pressure in his temples, a dull throb that wouldn't go away.
