The constant tick of the grandfather clock in the hallway felt amplified in Amelia’s ears. She paced the confines of her old bedroom, the floorboards groaning under her weight. The room itself was a relic, a monument to a past she wasn't sure she wanted to revisit. Everything was where she’d left it – the posters, the stuffed animals, the chipped ceramic figurines.

She'd been so sure she could make it on her own. The reality of failure was a bitter pill. Now, the quiet scrutiny in her parent’s eyes, the unspoken judgments… they were almost unbearable. She ran a hand through her hair, the strands catching in her fingers.

"Amelia? Are you alright, dear?" Her mother's voice, soft and probing, echoed from the doorway.
