The crunch of cleats on the field was a familiar sound, but today it grated on Emily's nerves. Coach Johnson had just told her that she was being shifted to defence. As a striker, she’d been used to the glory, the thrill of scoring goals. Now, she was expected to prevent them.

Her stomach churned. She felt as though she was teetering on a cliff. The thought of the tackles, the pressure, the possibility of missing an assignment, felt overwhelming. She ran a hand through her hair, desperate to find some form of composure.
