Sweat slicked Elara’s palms as she clutched her phone. The departure board flashed the dreaded word: DELAYED. Her grandmother’s 90th birthday was today. She’d spent weeks planning a surprise party, meticulously curating a playlist of her grandmother’s favorite songs, and now… this. Her jaw clenched, and she paced the length of the boarding gate, her expensive carry-on bumping against her legs with each frustrated turn. She glanced at the clock every thirty seconds, each tick a hammer blow against her already fragile composure.

She jammed the phone against her ear, muttering reassurances to her frantic sister on the other end. "I'm doing everything I can! Yes, I know it's already started… Look, I'll be there. Somehow." The flimsy promise felt hollow even to her own ears.
