He let out a short, frustrated bark of laughter. His entire trip, the one he had looked forward to for months, was collapsing before his eyes. The flight, to see his daughter's graduation, was delayed. He felt the blood drain from his face.

He paced the area, his strides becoming increasingly erratic. He stopped and ran a hand through his hair, leaving it a mess. He needed to be there. He had to witness her achievement.

He considered the options, dismissing each one as impossible. Tears pricked at his eyes. He sank into a chair, his shoulders slumped.

He sent a text to his daughter, hoping to keep up appearances and stay strong. The words felt like lead on his fingertips.
