The delay, another delay. It was the only thing playing on repeat. The international conference where she was scheduled to present, was her moment. It was her career advancement. Now, the flight was delayed.

Her breath came in ragged gasps. She ran a hand through her hair, leaving it standing on end. She began to rapidly tap her foot, a frantic rhythm.

She looked around the waiting area. Everyone else seemed so calm, so unbothered. She felt as though she was alone, stranded. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart.

She sent an email to the conference organizers. She knew it wouldn't make a difference, but she had to try.
