“You alright, Ben?” Chloe asked, her voice soft. Ben had been unusually quiet all day, barely touching his food. He picked at the corner of a sandwich, his appetite completely gone.

"Fine," he muttered, avoiding her gaze. He felt a tight band around his chest. He knew they were both up against the same decision. This job could change everything.

He excused himself and went to his room, slamming the door behind him. The world seemed to shrink to the space between the walls. He sat on the edge of his bed, his knuckles white as he clenched his fists.
