The knot in Leo’s stomach tightened another notch as he spotted Chloe across the crowded dance floor. He’d known this was a possibility, of course. Sarah had made a point of inviting *everyone*, and the invitations had gone out months ago. He should have been prepared. He gripped his champagne flute so hard he thought he might shatter it. He needed another drink.

He quickly scanned the room, looking for an escape route, but the space was a labyrinth of tulle and tightly-fitted suits. He considered feigning a sudden, urgent need to visit the restroom. No, that wouldn't work. Chloe was already heading his way.

"Leo, hi!" Her voice was bright, too bright, almost painfully so. He managed a strained smile. "You look... well, you look great." He found himself blinking rapidly. The air seemed to be getting thin.
