John slammed the laptop shut, the sudden noise echoing in the quiet house. He had a million things to do, including paying bills, ordering groceries and dealing with a leaky faucet. A notification popped up from the school portal. Time to see which teacher his daughter, Lily, would be starting kindergarten with.

Mrs. Evans. His breath hitched. The woman who had made him feel like a fool during show and tell. The woman who had given him detention for drawing on his desk. The sheer unfairness of it all made him want to scream.

He ran a hand through his hair, feeling the pulse quicken behind his eye. The idea of revisiting the past like this was completely unwelcome.
