The coffee cup trembled in Emily's grasp, the hot liquid threatening to spill. The error was a mistake, but the repercussions… They lingered in her stomach, churning and twisting. She stared out the window, the city lights blurring through unshed tears. This was not the life she knew.

Her fingers fidgeted with the edge of the file, the paper crinkling under the pressure. She should call someone, she thought. She should do something, anything, to make this nightmare disappear. The silence in her apartment was deafening, amplifying the unsettling thrumming in her ears.

A knot formed in her throat. She felt trapped. Utterly, completely trapped.
