He stared at the unfamiliar prescriptions clutched in his hand, a dull ache spreading through his temples. His usual clarity felt clouded, replaced with a sense of disorientation. He had to be careful. He took a deep breath, steeling himself. He’d never felt so out of control.

His hands shook as he started to dial the number. The sound of the dial tone was grating on his ears. A bitter taste coated his tongue. He had to make this right. He wouldn’t be able to sleep until he knew the truth.

He pressed the phone closer to his ear, his pulse quickening.
