The stadium lights seemed to mock Mark. He stood frozen, the cold wind whipping around him. His face was burning, his cheeks flushed with a mix of shame and frustration. He clenched his fists, nails digging into his palms.

He forced himself to walk away, each step feeling heavier than the last. He heard the cheers of the winning team, and each one was a stab to his heart. The taste of acid burned in his throat. He longed to be anywhere else.
