Gemotions

The silence in the apartment pressed down on Sarah. She stared at the email on her laptop screen, the words blurring before her eyes. The party for her boyfriend’s promotion was off. The decorations she'd bought lay crumpled in the corner of the room. A tightness spread through her neck and shoulders.

She closed her eyes, trying to force the feeling of disappointment away, but it clung to her like a shroud. She ran a hand through her hair, tangling it further. A knot of frustration formed in her stomach.

She got up and started aimlessly wandering. Her pace quickened as she moved from room to room, looking for a distraction. She picked up a photo, then threw it back down.
