The humidity clung to her skin, adding another layer of discomfort. I really need to finish this before the party, she thought. The house needed to be perfect, or she'd fail at everything. The thought made her stomach churn. The attic, as always, was a black hole of uncertainty.

She dragged a large box out of the cluttered space, her arms aching with effort. The dust swirled around her, making her eyes water.

Inside, she found an old wedding dress, its lace yellowed with age. She touched the delicate fabric, a strange sense of melancholy washing over her. She blinked, feeling a flush of heat rise up her neck.
