He glared at the attic door. The repairs were behind schedule. His temper felt perpetually frayed, as thin as the paint on the peeling walls. He gritted his teeth, the muscles in his jaw taut. He thought he could handle this.

He climbed the rickety stairs, the sound grating on his nerves. He needed to get through it, finish it. But the sense of being trapped was overwhelming.

He found various items left behind, photos, and clothing. He felt a sharp, stabbing sensation in his chest. A sudden wave of intense fatigue washed over him. He just wanted everything to stop.
