The coffee cup trembled in Maria’s hand, the lukewarm liquid sloshing dangerously close to the rim. Deadlines were closing in, and her boss’s recent comments about her performance rang like a discordant bell in her ears. She sought refuge in the musty air of the used bookstore, hoping the quietude would soothe her frazzled nerves.

She picked up a well-loved copy of "One Hundred Years of Solitude". A folded newspaper clipping, yellowed with age, fell out. It was a review of the book, someone’s handwritten comments scrawled across it in a frantic hand.

Her vision swam. The indecipherable words seemed to mock her. The air in the bookstore felt thick and heavy. She closed her eyes, trying to breathe deeply. This was just another burden that felt too much to bear.
