The silence of the house pressed in on Eliza. Her brother, Daniel, was rummaging through boxes in the attic, oblivious. She found herself constantly tapping her fingers on the dusty windowsill.

She stared out at the overgrown garden. Her breath hitched. The responsibility of it all was suffocating. Every cracked tile, every chipped paint can reminded her of the task ahead.
