He stared at the kitchen table, the half-eaten cereal looking less and less appealing with each passing second. The test results lay beside his untouched bowl, the official seal on the envelope mocking him with its pristine neatness. His jaw clenched as his gaze drifted towards the doorway, where his adoptive parents were most likely still asleep. The urge to flee, to escape the suffocating walls of his childhood home, was almost unbearable. He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture rough and agitated. He needed to be alone, to process this bewildering news. He shoved the chair back with a scraping sound and headed for the front door, the key fumbling in his shaky grip.
