He slammed the laptop shut, the metallic clang echoing in the otherwise quiet apartment. His normally steady hands were trembling, and he could barely keep his hands still. He felt a sudden, intense heat flush his face. The words "possible first-degree relative" haunted his vision. His adopted family, loving and supportive, suddenly seemed distant, their faces replaced with an overwhelming sense of disconnect. He paced, agitated, the small space feeling constricting. He grabbed his keys and rushed out of the door, needing to be anywhere but there, anywhere away from the suffocating pressure building in his chest.
