The ramen noodles were cold, congealing in the bottom of the Styrofoam container. Maya chewed a mouthful, the taste metallic and unappetizing. Her fingers trembled slightly as she scrolled through the email again, the words “erroneously awarded” burning into her retinas. This scholarship was the only reason she was in this expensive university, the sole lifeline keeping her afloat. Now? It was gone, snatched away like a mirage. Her breath hitched in her chest, a painful knot forming. She shoved the noodles away, appetite completely vanished. The library loomed before her, a mountain of overdue assignments, but her mind was a blank slate.
