“Absolutely not,” Leo snapped at the television. The game show, usually a welcome distraction, now grated on his nerves. He felt a constant, low thrum of agitation coursing through him, making it impossible to sit still. He abruptly switched the channel, then switched it again. His fingers drummed a restless rhythm against the arm of the sofa. He stared at the ceiling, his mind racing, dissecting every word of the rejection email, searching for a hidden meaning, a glimmer of hope that wasn't there.
