The eviction notice lay on the kitchen counter, a stark white intruder amidst the usual clutter of dirty dishes and unpaid bills. Leo paced the cramped apartment, his worn boots thudding against the wooden floorboards. He ran a hand through his hair repeatedly, pulling at the strands. Every few steps, he’d stop and stare out the window, a nervous twitch flickering in his cheek. He muttered curses under his breath, the words a low rumble of frustration.
