Gemotions

The heat in the waiting room seemed oppressive, clinging to her skin. Clara chewed on her lip, a nervous habit she hadn’t broken. The plastic chairs dug into her back, the fluorescent lights hummed a maddening tune. Waiting was the worst part, and the minutes stretched into an eternity. Her hands fidgeted in her lap, her fingers twisting and untwisting the strap of her purse. A hospital orderly handed her a letter, sealed and addressed to her from someone she thought she'd cut off completely.
