The silence that followed the reading of the will was deafening. Sarah stared blankly at the ornate fireplace, a knot forming in her stomach. Her brother, Michael, inherited their parents’ luxury apartment in the city, the vibrant hub she'd always dreamed of living in. She received their secluded cabin in the woods, a rustic dwelling miles from civilization. She ran a hand across her forehead, trying to wipe away the sheen of sweat that had suddenly appeared.

The thought of solitude, of being so far away from everyone, triggered a wave of nausea. The cabin would be cold, lonely, and completely ill-equipped for her life.

She needed to get out of this room, to breathe, to escape the suffocating weight of this new reality. She excused herself, muttering something about fresh air, and fled the stuffy room.
