The screen was blurry, the words swimming before her eyes. She hadn't slept properly in days. The house, her childhood home, was being sold. She ran a hand over her face, scrubbing at the fatigue etched into her features.

She took a shaky breath. Her palms were clammy, her fingers drumming an erratic beat on the table. The coffee she had made sat untouched, growing cold. Each time she glanced at the listing, a fresh wave of something akin to grief washed over her.

She closed her eyes, trying to conjure the scent of the old kitchen, the feeling of the sun on her face in the backyard. The memories were vivid, but they felt distant, like a dream she was afraid to lose. She felt like something was being ripped away from her.
