"It’s just a house, honey," David had said, his voice a comforting rumble. But for Sarah, it wasn't just a house. It was now a source of deep, unsettling dread. Learning of the previous owner's demise, a gruesome end discovered within its walls, had ignited a fire of unease within her.

She had been enjoying the new garden, the sunshine, the quiet. Now, the sunlight seemed too bright, the shadows too long. She spent her days staring out of the windows, watching the neighbor’s movements.

She picked at the corner of the tablecloth, her fingers twitching. The feeling of vulnerability settled on her, heavy and unyielding. The sound of children playing outside grated on her ears. David's reassurances, once so effective, now felt hollow. The house was tainted.
