The apartment was a disaster. Clothes lay strewn across the floor, half-eaten takeout containers littered the coffee table, and the air hung thick with the scent of stale air and unresolved anxieties. Sarah surveyed the chaos, each item a testament to her inability to cope. Now, the thumping bass from next door threatened to push her over the edge.

She found herself pacing the length of her tiny living room. The vibrations were a physical manifestation of her inner turmoil, a relentless echo of her worries. She began to wring her hands, her nails digging into her palms. She bit the inside of her cheek.

She finally gave in, pulling open the drawer and fumbling for her phone. She would call. She didn't want to. She hated it. But maybe, just maybe, it would quiet the noise that kept her from thinking.
