The weight in Sarah's chest made it hard to breathe. Her mother's bucket list, discovered in a worn leather-bound diary, mocked her from the kitchen table. *Write a novel. Learn to speak French. Visit Rome*. Sarah felt the familiar knot tighten in her stomach. She stared out the window, at the grey sky mirroring her mood.

She had always been her mother’s rock, and now, with her own life in tatters, she felt overwhelmed by the thought of these undone dreams. Her coffee, cold and forgotten, sat in the mug. She had barely slept for a week. Her head throbbed.

A tear escaped, tracking down her cheek. She was utterly exhausted.
