"Just breathe," Maya muttered, gripping her coffee cup so hard her knuckles were white. The promotion she had been counting on had gone to someone else, and her savings were dwindling. She felt a heat rising in her chest, a burning sensation that spread through her limbs. Her gaze landed on the house across the street. The Millers, a seemingly average family, had always been polite, but unassuming. The arrival of a helicopter in their backyard completely threw her off.

She kept playing the scenario in her head. How could they? How could they possibly live like that, and she couldn't even afford to take a vacation. A bitter taste filled her mouth. She barely noticed the sun as it set.
