Gemotions

The world was muted, the colors faded. She felt like she was wading through molasses. Each movement required a conscious effort. The incessant dripping of the tap in the kitchen had been driving her crazy.

The knock on the door was hesitant, gentle. It was Mr. Chen, his face etched with worry. "Excuse me, Marie. I was wondering if I could, perhaps, use a bit of your lawn to grow some vegetables. Nothing too big, I promise."

Marie felt a cold dread creep into her heart. Her stomach clenched. The thought of responding, of even acknowledging his presence, was a massive exertion. She just shook her head, unable to articulate the refusal.
