The air in the library felt heavy with the scent of aged paper and unspoken secrets. John ran his fingers along the spine of the book, his skin crawling. The author had clearly been snooping around his life, piecing together fragments of information without any regard for truth or context.

He'd found it on the bestseller list. It was a triumph of sales, and a disaster for him.

He felt the familiar urge to shut it all down, to make it all go away. He would not be seen. He would not be understood. He would not be reduced. He began to form a plan, a strategy to undermine the book, to make sure it disappeared from the public consciousness.
