I felt a jolt of disbelief when the coach told me to move from libero to setter. Setter? It sounded absurd. I had spent years mastering the quick digs, the perfect passes, the art of defense. Now, suddenly, I had to master setting, something I had no interest in learning.

I walked to the setter’s position, my steps heavy. It was a chore, not a joy. I didn't want to learn, I didn't want to adjust. My hands felt clumsy, my movements awkward. The ball, usually my friend, now felt like a burden.

I focused on the floor, on the scuff marks on the hardwood. I was not going to like this. Not at all.
