From the parking lot, Emily watched the building where she’d interviewed. The glass facade reflected the setting sun, making it look like a fortress. She’d tried her best, she’d prepared, but the interview had left her feeling cold.

Inside, she had been asked questions that were clearly targeted at her. They knew her work. They knew her history. They'd even asked about her relationship with her friend.

The interview was a test and she refused to show them an ounce of vulnerability.
