Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the storm brewing inside David. He had caught a glimpse of the text message – “Party’s Canceled. Sorry.” He stared out at the deluge, a knot tightening in his chest. His friends had spent weeks planning this. He had been looking forward to it. He refused to accept this damp squib of an outcome.

He wouldn’t let a bit of rain and a change of plans ruin his night. He grabbed his keys and the address of the restaurant where the party was supposed to happen, despite the message. He’d always liked the band playing that night. He was going. Alone, if necessary.
