He had seen it online, scrolling through his phone during his commute. "The Soup Kitchen," his favorite lunch spot, was closing its doors. He felt a wave of icy cold wash over him, followed by a surge of heat. He refused to believe it.

He went there for lunch that day, despite the notice. He refused to give in. He arrived, the place was strangely quiet. He sat at his usual table, the one in the corner. He ordered his usual, the tomato soup and grilled cheese. He didn't say a word to the waitress, just stared out the window, watching the pedestrians pass by.
