The email arrived late at night, the subject line a brutal punch: "Important Announcement Regarding The Sushi Garden." She stared at it, her fingers gripping the edge of her laptop. It felt like a personal attack.

She drove to the restaurant the next day. She walked past the empty tables. She ordered her usual, the spicy tuna roll. She ate it, barely chewing. The waitress, normally chatty, spoke in hushed tones, almost apologizing for her.

She ate the roll, and then she ordered another. And another. She'd eat every roll they had, she decided. She would eat them until they changed their minds.
