He crouched by the overflowing dumpster, the pungent aroma of rotting food doing nothing to deter his examination of the wallet. He’d found it wedged between a moldy box and a ripped trash bag. Inside: a jackpot. The urge to simply toss it in, to disappear, was intense. He should find the owner. He should… He pressed his lips together.

He glanced at the sky. A flock of birds wheeled overhead. He stood, wallet in hand, and began walking away. He wouldn’t be dictated to. He’d decide later. He felt the familiar, uncomfortable tightness in his chest. But he pushed it down.
