Mark stared at the screen, the percentages swimming before his eyes. Ninety-nine percent. It was a statistical impossibility, a glitch in the Matrix. He'd scrolled through the profiles, the suggested matches, finding nothing. Nobody was familiar. He was alone.

He slammed the laptop shut, the sound echoing in his otherwise quiet apartment. It was a lie. He didn't *want* to be related to strangers. He didn't want this upheaval. He'd spent his life carefully crafting an image of himself, of his family.

He stood up abruptly and started pacing. He'd always known, of course, that something was…missing. But, this felt like an assassination. He wasn’t going to allow someone to redefine who he was.
